GrassRoots Investigation Project

"The administration of the death penalty in the United States is plagued by injustice. The proof has become irrefutable. Individuals are being sentenced to death for crimes they did not commit. While some of these individuals are being exonerated and released, others are likely being executed."

Preliminary Report - GrassRoots Investigation Project

Normally the Cell Door Magazine provides the opportunity for incarcerated and ex-incarcerated people to voice their opinions and display their talent.  Although never-incarcerated people wrote the Reasonable Doubts Report, the report gives voice to the once incarcerated who have been silenced eternally. Each future issue will feature 1 of the 16 stories of men whose cases, when read, raise serious and very reasonable doubts about whether they were guilty of the crime for which they were convicted - for which their lives were snuffed out before all the facts of their cases were heard by a jury in court.  After reading these 16 cases you may begin to ask "Is the U.S. Executing Innocent People?"

MISSION STATEMENT

THE CELL DOOR IS…

An INTERNET MAGAZINE written for a free audience by prisoners or people who are family members or friends of prisoners. Open the cell door and meet the men and women behind bars. The Cell Door Magazine features articles that tell what the incarceration experience is like while in prison and how the ex-con fares once s/he is back on the street. Topics include but are not limited to prison issues.

  Downloading the Cell Door Magazine

Last issue we stated: "To increase our readership amongst the incarcerated and those who do not have access to the internet, we would like to create a download option to the magazine. When you click on this option, an entire issue would be downloaded onto your hard disk." We've taken the first step and have formatted all the articles in MS WORD and bundled them in a self-extracting ZIP compression file.  You can get a MS WORD version of this issue downloaded onto your hard disc if you click on the DownLoad link. We hope to make more progress in this area before we publish the next issue .

Once the file is on your hard disk you can:

·        View the Cell Door on your computer without tying up the phone line for hours

·        Print this file and read The Cell Door Magazine in your favorite easy chair

·        Send a printout to a friend or family member who is incarcerated

Give a copy to a friend in the free world

Must Read Poem

Even if you’re not a poetry lover, please don’t miss the poem Choice.  I think the poem pulls together thoughts that reflect the holiday spirit and prison issues.

Searching for help creating the Cell Door Magazine

Proof Reader -Someone who is a natural speller and knows the rules of proper English cold. We don't rewrite articles. We only correct obvious errors and improve structure when grammar and choice of words interfere with meaning. Two people have recently volunteered to help with proofreading.  Great! Thank you!  However, we could use more helpers.

Page Layout Whiz -When the above project is deployed we will need a person to take the content of the magazine as it exists on the internet and form it into one coherent, good looking periodical.
