Pieces
E-Mail by Sharon Heath   Bio/Address

I've heard it said
that prison
can break a man

It must be true
because I've fallen in love
with pieces
of you

From behind the walls
you arrive
in fragments
cards and letters

your thoughts now on paper
days later
phone calls and pictures

your voice--disconnected
from the warmth
of your smile

a complete man
some assembly required

outside the walls
I collect the pieces
arranging them
holding them in place
with my imagination
while I wait for you
to become whole
again.

READER COMMENTS:

I thank you so much for the newest issue of Cell Door.

I have a dear friend on DR in Arizona, whom I will send portions of the new issue to.

I would like to mention about someone who submitted poems--Sharon Heath.  She is obviously not incarcerated, but someone's loved one, as her poems very well portray the experience of a relationship with someone in prison.  Her poems are exceptional and I hope she continues to share her experiences through writing.

I look forward to reading more of them in future issues!  Very touching poems!

Sincerely,

Barb Morgan
