Standing in the Doorway

In passing we meet

At the cell door

The transition is just that

A transition

But it is a moment in passing

When friends are revealed

As just that

The threshold of the cell door

Is the narrowest of margins

Where race class creed et al.

Cease to exist

Since it is the true statutory silence

Of hearts joined together

That determines which way this and that

Relationship will go

How far

How long

And all this without the underlying desires

Of greed and economic lust

Of power and control

Of status wealth and corruption

That sends a man down

All this and more stands united

In the barest of realities

At the cell door

That is the beating heart

Racing pumping resting

In the knowledge that,

This moment is only passing

And friends move on together!

                 For the guys and gals

                 Standing in the doorway...
