Death Sentence

It's pay off time my friend.

Society must bill you.

The price exacted is revenge,

when 12 men vote to kill you.

We'll throw the switch and still your voice,

ignore the fact we had a choice,

to save you.

Now we've chained the beast.

You're reign is ceased.

We'll turn the lock,

and set the clock,

then we play God and take the life He gave you.

Freedom

If you dream of freedom

or to escape the ties that bind

you must first escape the prison

of a narrow-visioned mind

 if you seek tomorrows

that surpass your yesterdays

you must first explore your conscience

and face the error of your ways

Then you must devise a plan

for who you want to be

and pursue those goals with an honest heart

and you'll be given freedoms key

but a key only unlocks a door

it is you that must walk through

to face your fears and chase your dreams

and find the un-imprisoned you

Inmate Blues

Flocks of men in inmate blues

tied in groups by race and rules

tension crackles in the air

where manlihood takes perils dare

in litanies of streets of war

and threats to even some old score

we close the futures narrow door

and who of us will hit the street

and leave behind the thief and cheat?

for those still playing the losers game

only have ourselves to blame.

thought i'd share some i wrote while incarcerated at Soledad, here in California. I've been out a year and a half now and should discharge parole next April. I'm 3 years clean from dope and don't ever see myself in prison again.

Hope you like my poems.
