BLACK HISTORY

E-Mail   by Willie Christopher Tucker   Bio/Address

What Black history means to me? Black history means uplifting the consciousness of Black people. Not just to recognize the names and faces of those who have come and gone. But to understand their struggle for racial equality and equal justice, and to understand their contributions to our culture, our race, and humanity.

Black history isn’t just about the past, because history is being made everyday. Right here, right now, history is being made. Our history! The history of Black people: African Americans.

Do not be afraid of who you are! Black history means to challenge yourselves to improve your situation. It means to become informed on social issues that affect your life and those in each of your respective communities.

We all have become culturally disconnected and diseased by the effects of economic instability, little or no education, and the ever-present infectious canker sore of racism. But this should not serve as an excuse to stay disconnected, diseased, and living contrary to the laws established to protect society.

Those who came before us fought to secure freedom and equality for all human beings. They even sacrificed their lives so that we would be able to enjoy the luxury of an education. They are not just nameless faces on tombstones. They symbolize the goodness which is inherent in all Black men and women.

No matter how mean te streets have been to you, you can change your condition and you can create a better life for yourself, your family. You can plant the seeds of harmony within your community. You can do it because others have done it before you.

It begins now! Educate yourselves, read and write all that you can. You are making Black history.

This is what Black history means to me…………PRIDE!!!!
