YOUR BAGGAGE

 E-mail    By Victor "The OwL" Turner     Bio/Address

Struggling along to another tomorrow

Leaving a part of your life behind

Such treasures packed neatly and folded

Only the most painful left behind;

Even Super Heroes have their secrets

With the kiss of the Sun new hopes remain

Yesterdays' shadows left to haunt others

As the attendant at the station asks

"Can I take your bags?"

Possessively you shake your head

Ticket in hand you climb aboard

Dragging beside you your baggage

Swearing to start anew, you take your seat

Other travelers carry so little

A twinge of pity stirs within your soul

The inexperienced and youthful faces

Scared by the pains of another's thoughtlessness

Self-determined to begin the journey anew

You secretly wish each well and luck

Of course, none are like you

Few smiles are shared amongst them

Their destinations totally unknown to you

Their pasts not compared to your own miseries;

Their lives disconnected from your own

Here on this adventure called Life

Hope springs eternal within your heart

As the one-way ticket is checked and punched

Another chance to find happiness is yours

You notice very few other passengers’ tote bags

Possibly one of these can be the One for me?

But, one sits weeping openly across the aisle

"What's the matter?" you want to inquire

Because you are the target of their attention

You feel nervous by the stares of the others

Gathering in numbers towards your existence

Pointing fingers direct other’s gazes, too

Until you are at the center of attention

You avoid their stares and close your eyes

"Is it my fault they have so little themselves?"

You ask yourself inside your mind

As the journey comes to an end and you step

Upon the platform to a new beginning you see

Almost every passenger is met by someone else;

Kisses and embraces shared freely along with smiles

Except for only those who are carrying their bags

No hugs and kisses, or warm embraces are found

Only the heaviness and burden of these bags

You call to the attendant urgently, "Why?"

The attendant smiles at you gently and says,

"You cannot expect a new beginning while carrying the past."
