REACTION TO PAROLE DENIAL OCTOBER 2007
By CHARLES WAKEFIELD
I think that it is always difficult when your life is placed in the hands of other people. At that point I feel so helpless. I have suffered for many days, many months, and many years. It is so hard to understand why a loving God would allow such things to happen to an innocent person. As I have in the past, I asked God: Why? Now I have come to the understanding that He is the potter and I am the clay. The potter can do as He wishes with the clay.
The great bitter pill is when the old people cry. It is all so sad to see the old ones cry. How can one be so cold and heartless not to feel and see the pain in the eyes of the old ones? When the old ones cried the very foundations of my soul shook and I could only wonder how long would the cries of injustice be unheard? How long would the pain of suffering flow down weary faces?
Through it all I was always so very strong: the trial where they all lied, the day I was convicted and sentenced to death, the day I was placed on death row.
Justice has once again fallen away in the street and is no more.
Signed,
An Innocent Man
