ONE BLACK MAN TOO

By George Kayer

Enter a dozen guys for election, one black man too,

Pretty pictures of their families on

Myspace and Classmates too.

Penetrate our brains with endless digital bytes,

Force upon us, Lindsay, Paris and Britney’s issues of appetite.

Distract our country with soft news and decoying.

Our children into the media-meat-grinder,

Out they come – now famous – addicted and whoring.

Run a dozen guys for office, one black man too,

Distract the religious right as well as me and you.

Above all, project a Christian spirituality,

Especially if you’re hiding any homosexuality.

Candidate campaign,

Convinced me their spin is true.

Brand me red or blue, I believe in their issues.

Bombs away, I’m not part of that fight.

God bless America, we’re all forthright.

Spun from the politicians spin, I now emerge.

President states: "Mission accomplished"

Ooops,

"Initiate the surge."

God have mercy

Until we can remember…

What’s wrong and right?

Perhaps next November.

Run a dozen guys for office and

A black man for spin,

I don’t give a damn,

As long as my side wins.
