Dogs In The Pound

By Dennis Woods

Just like dogs barking in noisy pound

Time goes by with endless yelps of sound.

Everywhere you look there’s another hound

Barking out where he’s been and where he’s bound.

Sometimes a friendly wag.  Sometimes a snarl and a bite.

And keepers too, seemingly to delight in many-a fight

For what they keep doesn’t have power of collective might

And what happens inside kept hidden out of public sight.

So the dogs keep barking, held in their caged fate,

Whining or growling until a clock clicks on final date,

What will it be, death at finality of life’s abate

Or will this now fierce dog finally escape the gate?
