Still Celebrating Our 10th Anniversary

Greetings:

This exciting new issue of Cell Door has an overall theme of self-evaluation.  Several of the prisoners killed someone in their youth and avoided the death penalty but are serving Life sentences.  They have had a long time to think about the forces that drove them at that time and the harm they caused to their victims, their families, and to their own progress as human beings.

They are also thinking about the direction in which many prison programs have gone, as one person mentions, from “rehabilitation” to “warehousing”.  One person offers a Restorative Justice model, a process to which NDRAN is deeply committed.  Many are reflecting on their loneliness, their lack of involvement with their children, and their overall remorse for the bad choices they made.  One man is trying to prove his innocence and encourages others in the same situation never to give up seeking help.

The overall mood is one of reflection and advice.  And the artwork serves to enhance the message that one has to move forward  with focus on healing and helping others to avoid similar mistakes.

Enjoy Cell Door and stay involved!
